District Governor Ricardo A. Lavina, Jr. as he is fondly called, belonged to the famous batch of Ateneo de Manila University's high school class 1955, where former President Joseph Erap Estrada and Banko Sentral Governor Rafael Buenaventura also belonged. In College, he studied at the University of the Philippines but completed his Bachelor of Arts at the Ateneo de Zamboanga.

He joined the Rotary Club of Zamboanga City North in November 1994 but was admitted to Rotary International in January 1995. Five years after he joined Rotary, he became the President of the club in 2000-2001 with Create Awareness, Take Action in Our Club, in Our Community, in Our World as the theme.

During his term as President, the RCZC North organized the Rotary Community Corps in the isolated and deprived mountain community called Sitio Bandera in Barangay Dulian, Zamboanga City . It was also during his term that the club received its second Presidential Citation from RI President Frank Devlyn for Rotary Year 2000-2001.

Prior to serving as president of the club, he served as director of the avenues of service as follows: International Service in 1996-1997, Club Service in 1998-1999, Vocational Service in 1990-2000. He also served as director Community Service in 2002-2003, after he has served as president of the club.

District Governor Eric was a recipient of President's Award for his exemplary performance as a Rotarian in 1998-1999, 1999-2000, 2001-2002 and 2003-2003 and a perfect attendance awardee in 2001-2002.

In the district, he served as Assistant Governor during the term of District Governor Benjamin Boy Jarantilla in 2003-2004 and the Governor's Extension Aide in 2003-2004 during the term of District Governor Benjamin Boloy Mendoza, Jr. He attended six District Conferences, two district Assemblies and two Tri-District Conferences. He also played host to Group Study Exchange team members from Sweden , Texas , Malaysia and India .

DG Eric owns and manages a business class economy hotel, thus classification in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He is the President of a family owned corporation, the Fal Gerika Enterprises, Inc., which is also into real estate leasing. He was a Past Director and a member of the Zamboanga City Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Inc and also a past officer and a member of the Zamboanga Golf and Country Club, Inc.

As a family man, he is a devoted husband to his spouse Georgia, and an attentive and caring father to his son Eric II and daughters Gladys and Glenda and doting grandfather to his five grandchildren.

As a person, DG Eric is a great motivator in his simple and unassuming ways. He can make people move to action and cooperate with ease because he himself is a doer. He does not have to create noise to get people's attention because his wit and charm will what make it work for him. His caring and sincere ways are what endeared him to his numerous friends.
